The 1970-71 Michigan State hockey team, under the leadership of Head Coach Amo Bessone, concluded their season with an overall record of 19 wins and 12 losses. Within the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), they secured a record of 12 wins and 10 losses, placing them fourth in the standings. The team also achieved the title of Big Ten Champions.

Throughout the season, Michigan State faced a variety of opponents. Their performance included significant victories against teams such as Ohio State and Notre Dame, with scores like 10-5 against Notre Dame on December 11th. However, they also experienced close losses, including an overtime defeat to North Dakota on November 13th with a score of 3-4.

The team's roster was composed of players such as James Wherley, Albert Checco, and Thomas Boucher in the front row, along with Trainer Duke LaRue and Manager Alan Friedman among others in the back row. The season featured numerous competitive matchups culminating in their participation in the WCHA Playoffs held in Denver, Colorado.

Despite some challenging games throughout their schedule, Michigan State's efforts were highlighted by strong performances against conference rivals and non-conference teams alike.
