Michigan State Athletics prepares for busy week across multiple sports

Michigan State Athletics is set for a busy week, featuring several key events across different sports. The university's ice hockey team will face Ohio State on Friday and Saturday at Munn Ice Arena as part of the Big Ten Conference series. November is dedicated to cancer awareness through their "Spartans Full Strength" initiative.

In men's soccer, Michigan State holds the No. 5 seed and will compete against Washington in the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday in Bridgeview, Illinois. They previously secured a 1-0 victory over Washington this season with Jonathan Stout scoring the decisive goal.

Men's basketball saw Jaden Akins equal his career high with 23 points in an 81-57 win over Monmouth. Upcoming games include hosting Niagara on Thursday and facing Kansas in the Champions Classic next Tuesday.

The women's basketball team is playing four consecutive home games to start the season, following a commanding 107-42 victory against Oakland. They are set to play Yale on Friday and Eastern Michigan on Monday.

For men's tennis, it’s a split squad weekend with participation in ITA Sectionals in Fort Worth, Texas, and the Big Ten Indoor Championships in Madison, Wisconsin. Danial Rakhmatullayev recently earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors.

Women's soccer anticipates their selection for the NCAA Tournament on Monday, which would mark their third consecutive appearance—a program first. Justina Gaynor received her third All-Big Ten First Team honor last week.

Volleyball will travel for matches against Maryland and Rutgers this week. In their recent match against Ohio State, Nalani Iosia led with a career-high 34 digs.

Wrestling hosts the Michigan State Open at Jenison Field House on Saturday after winning six out of ten matches against American University last weekend.

Lastly, rowing concludes its fall schedule by competing at Ohio State alongside Indiana, Iowa, and Wisconsin this Saturday.
