Michigan State University is set to host Ohio State in a significant Big Ten hockey matchup this weekend. The games will take place at Mason Rink within the Munn Ice Arena on Friday, November 8 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, November 9 at 6 p.m. Michigan State, currently ranked No. 4/3 with a record of 5-1-0, will face off against Ohio State, ranked No. 13/12 with a record of 7-0-1.

Historically, Michigan State has held an advantage over Ohio State in their meetings. "The Spartans are 48-23-7 against the Buckeyes in East Lansing and hold a 100-57-13 mark in the all-time series," according to available data. Last season saw five encounters between these teams, with Michigan State winning four of those games.

Offensively, Michigan State ranks fourth in the Big Ten with an average of three goals per game across six matches. Defensively, they lead the league by allowing only eight goals overall (1.5 per game), placing them eighth nationally for scoring defense.

Key players for Michigan State include Daniel Russell and Isaac Howard who both have scored four goals each this season and maintain a +6 rating. "Three of Russell's four goals have stood as game-winners," making him a national leader in that category. Howard also leads the team alongside Maxim Štrbák with four assists each.

In goalkeeping duties during their recent Canisius series, Trey Augustine achieved his first shutout of the season while Luca Di Pasquo contributed significantly to their victory with solid performances.

Additionally, November marks the third annual Spartans Full Strength program focusing on cancer awareness. This initiative honors individuals affected by cancer through partnerships such as one with the Dr. Stephen Swistak Memorial Fund.

"Players and coaches will wear Spartans Full Strength pins/helmet stickers throughout the month," highlighting efforts to support survivors and caregivers during home games.

Radio coverage for these upcoming matches can be accessed via WJIM 1240 AM or online through Spartan Media Network featuring Scott Moore and Rob Woodward providing commentary.
