The 2004-05 Michigan State Hockey Team, under the leadership of Head Coach Rick Comley, concluded their season with an overall record of 20 wins, 17 losses, and 4 ties. In the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA), they secured a sixth-place finish with a conference record of 12-13-3.
Throughout the season, the team participated in various competitions, including the Great Lakes Invitational where they emerged as champions. Their journey was marked by notable victories such as defeating New Hampshire with a score of 5-1 on October 17 and securing a win against Nebraska-Omaha on March 17 with a decisive score of 5-0.
The team's performance varied across different matches. They faced tough competition from teams like Michigan and Ohio State but managed to clinch significant wins against them at different points in the season. On November 26, they achieved a notable victory over Wisconsin with a score of 4-0.
Coach Rick Comley expressed his thoughts on the team's performance stating, "Our players showed resilience throughout the season and delivered some impressive performances."
Assistant Coaches Tom Newton and Brian Renfrew played key roles alongside Coach Comley in guiding the team through this challenging season. The support staff included Athletic Trainer John Powell and Equipment Manager Tom Magee among others who contributed to the team's efforts.
The roster featured players like Dominic Vicari, Corey Potter, Mike Lalonde, Adam Nightingale, Jim Slater, Drew Miller, Jared Nightingale, Kevin Estrada, Ash Goldie, Matt Migliaccio among others who were instrumental in achieving their seasonal accomplishments.
As part of their schedule highlights, Michigan State took part in several invitational and tournament games held at Joe Louis Arena which further tested their skills against formidable opponents.
