Michigan State University's women's basketball team achieved another significant victory, defeating Yale with a commanding score of 100-44 at the Breslin Center. This marks the second consecutive game where the Spartans have surpassed the 100-point mark, following their win against Oakland earlier in the week.
The team, under head coach Robyn Fralick, has opened its season with a 2-0 record for the second year in a row. The Spartans have consistently started strong for ten consecutive seasons. In contrast, Yale's loss brought their record to 1-1.
Grace VanSlooten led Michigan State's scoring efforts with 19 points and added five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Other notable performances included Theryn Hallock with 13 points and Kennedy Blair contributing significantly off the bench with 12 points and seven rebounds. Julia Ayrault also made an impact with 10 points and six rebounds.
For Yale, Mackenzie Egger was a standout player, securing eight points and ten rebounds.
The game began with Michigan State taking an early lead through a 7-0 run. Despite a brief shooting drought, they quickly recovered to finish the first quarter ahead at 25-9. By halftime, Michigan State had expanded their lead to 50-18, benefiting from a strong defensive effort that forced Yale into multiple turnovers.
In the third quarter, both teams struggled initially to score until VanSlooten broke through for MSU. The fourth quarter saw Michigan State extend their advantage further by scoring the first 15 points of the period.
Looking ahead, Michigan State continues its homestand against Eastern Michigan on November 11th during their annual Hoops For Troops event.
