In East Lansing, Michigan State University student-athletes have achieved a significant academic milestone. During the spring semester of an academic year marking the 25th anniversary of the Clara Bell Smith Student-Athlete Academic Center, these athletes posted a record-breaking cumulative GPA of 3.3744, the highest in the department's history.

Notably, every team achieved at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, a first for the university's athletic department. "The historic academic achievements of our student-athletes are truly remarkable," stated Alan Haller, Michigan State Vice President and Director of Athletics. He attributed this success to both the students' diligence and the support from dedicated academic staff, describing it as "a fitting end to the Smith Center's 25th anniversary year."

This achievement marks the 24th consecutive semester that Spartan student-athletes have maintained a GPA over 3.0. The spring semester GPA was recorded at 3.3453, ranking as the fourth-highest in department history and extending their streak to 23 semesters with GPAs over 3.0.

Several programs achieved their highest-ever cumulative GPAs: field hockey, football, men's soccer, rowing, and women's cross country teams all reached new heights. Additionally, football, ice hockey, men's soccer, and rowing posted their best semester GPAs ever.

Individually, 503 students finished spring 2024 with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; among them were 108 students who earned a perfect GPA of 4.0 during this term.
