Michigan State University's women's golf team concluded their participation in the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic with a fifth-place finish. The tournament, held at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, saw the Spartans score a 3-under par 285 on Tuesday, bringing their total to 2-over par 866 over three days.
The event featured an 18-team field that included 12 of the top-50 teams nationally. Arkansas led the competition with a final round of 15-under par 273 and finished at 19-under par 845. Vanderbilt and Ole Miss shared second place with scores of 6-under par 858. Northwestern secured fourth place at 3-under par 861, while Michigan State completed the top five.
Junior Taylor Kehoe emerged as Michigan State's leading player, finishing tied for seventh place with a score of 2-under par 214 after shooting a final round of 2-under par 70. Senior Brooke Biermann achieved an even-par final round to tie for eighteenth place at even-par 216.
Both senior Katie Lu and sophomore Ana Sofia Murcia ended tied for twenty-eighth place with scores of 2-over par 218. Freshman Catalina Monroy finished tied for eighty-sixth place at fourteen-over par.
Additionally, junior Paula Balanzategui competed individually and also tied for twenty-eighth place at two-over par.
Looking ahead, the Spartans will host the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational on February 16-17 at Palm Aires Champions Course in Sarasota, Florida.
