Michigan State wrestlers secure dominant win over Clarion on Senior Day

Michigan State wrestling team marked Senior Day with a significant 30-8 victory over Clarion at Jenison Field House in East Lansing. The event honored five graduating seniors: Tristan Lujan, Andy Hampton, Jay Nivison, Marty Larkin, and Nick West. Seniors Lujan, Nivison, and Larkin all secured wins in their matches.

The win improved Michigan State's dual record to 4-5 while Clarion's fell to 3-10. The Spartans will resume Big Ten competition next weekend with matches against Northwestern and Wisconsin.

Tristan Lujan returned from injury to earn a 7-0 decision over Mason Prinkey at 133 pounds. Although Clarion initially led the team score after a major decision at 141 pounds, Michigan State quickly regained control.

Clayton Jones III narrowed the gap with a victory at 149 pounds. Braden Stauffenberg then gave Michigan State an intermission lead of 11-8 with a technical fall at 157 pounds.

Jay Nivison continued the momentum post-intermission by winning his first dual match for Michigan State at 165 pounds. Marty Larkin also triumphed in his season debut for the Spartans with a technical fall in the opening period.

Luke Daly secured the overall dual victory for Michigan State with a decision win at 184 pounds. Remy Cotton extended the lead further at 197 pounds with another technical fall victory. Max Vanadia completed the day's matches with a shutout win in the heavyweight category.

Michigan State achieved four shutouts during Sunday's event, demonstrating strong defensive performances across multiple weight classes.
