Spartans track & field shines at Meyo and PNC Lenny Lyles Invitationals

The Michigan State University Spartans track and field team had a successful weekend with participants competing in two separate events: the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, and the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky.

At the Meyo Invitational, the Spartans' distance runners excelled. The women's distance medley relay team of Kate Stewart-Barnett, Shae Harbaugh, Abbey Carvey, and Olivia Millen secured second place with a time of 11:10.84. In the men's event, Luke Perelli, Alex Yon, Tim Cherry, and Brady McArdle took first place with a time of 9:50.04.

Andrew Lane achieved first place in the men's 5000m with a time of 14:05.09. Tyler Pritchett finished ninth at 14:16.28. Sophia Lucki was the top Spartan finisher in the women's 5000m with a personal-best time of 16:33.43.

On Saturday at the same venue, Parker Lambers and Jack Pennewell recorded personal records in the men's 3000m finishing fifth and eighth respectively. Allison Chimelewski also set a personal best in the women's 3000m.

In other notable performances at Meyo Invitational, Rachel Forsyth finished second in the women's mile final setting a new personal record at 4:34.02 while Kate Stewart-Barnett finished third improving her previous best to 4:36.30.

At the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational on Friday, Leila Barmore placed fourth in the pentathlon scoring 3,674 points while Avery Budz was seventh with 3,395 points. Both athletes set personal records during their events.

Carter Bissell achieved a second-place finish in long jump with a new personal best of 7.04m while Jalen Nelson placed eighth.

On Saturday at PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, Sean Mullen made his collegiate debut finishing fifth overall in heptathlon with notable performances including his pole vault where he reached third place.

Leila Barmore continued her strong performance from Friday by placing fifth in triple jump on Saturday while Sophia Mettes finished fourth in women's pole vault.
