True freshman Mason Stewart achieved his first career dual victory in his debut match for Michigan State wrestling. Despite this individual success, the team faced a defeat against No. 7-ranked Nebraska with a score of 38-3 at Jenison Field House in East Lansing, Michigan.

Michigan State now holds a record of 3-5 in duals and is yet to secure a win in the Big Ten, standing at 0-4. Meanwhile, Nebraska improved its record to 8-2 overall and 3-1 in the Big Ten. The Spartans are set to face Clarion on February 2nd for their next dual meet, which will also serve as MSU's Senior Celebration presented by HAP.

Nebraska dominated the early matches starting at the 125-pound weight class. However, some Michigan State wrestlers showed promising performances. Redshirt freshman Caleb Weiand made an impressive effort against No. 7-ranked Caleb Smith but ultimately lost the bout. Another notable performance came from redshirt freshman Clayton Jones III who managed a takedown against No. 2-ranked Ridge Lovett before being pinned in the second period.

Mason Stewart emerged as a standout performer for Michigan State at the 157-pound category. In his collegiate dual debut against Scott Robertson, Stewart secured two takedowns during regulation time and entered sudden victory tied at 10-10. He quickly clinched a win with a decisive move just ten seconds into extra time, finishing with a score of 13-10.

Nebraska continued its winning streak with decision victories at both the 165 and 174-pound categories and concluded with bonus point wins in subsequent matches.
