Freshman guard Jase Richardson delivered a standout performance, scoring a career-high 20 points to lead No. 8 Michigan State to an 81-74 victory over Rutgers at Madison Square Garden. The win marks the Spartans' 12th consecutive triumph.

Richardson's contribution included hitting six of nine shots from the floor and tying his career-best with three three-pointers. He also added four rebounds and one assist. "Jase Richardson scored a career-high 20 points," according to the game report.

Sophomore forward Coen Carr added 14 points and matched his career-high with eight rebounds, while senior guard Jaden Akins contributed 12 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Tre Holloman chipped in with nine points and a game-high six assists.

Michigan State improved its record to 17-2 overall and maintained an undefeated streak in the Big Ten Conference at 8-0. Meanwhile, Rutgers fell to an even 10-10 overall and holds a conference record of 3-6.

The Spartans led by three points at halftime, maintaining their advantage into the second half. A hook shot from junior center Carson Cooper extended their lead to eight points early on. Although Rutgers closed the gap to four points, Michigan State responded with a decisive run that put them ahead by double digits.

Rutgers attempted a late comeback with several three-pointers but was unable to overcome Michigan State's strong free throw shooting in the final minutes.

Key statistics highlight Michigan State's shooting accuracy, rebounding advantage, and bench contributions. The team shot nearly 50% from the floor, out-rebounded Rutgers significantly, and received substantial scoring support from its bench players.

The victory continues Michigan State's dominance over Rutgers in their all-time series, which now stands at 14-3 in favor of the Spartans. Head Coach Tom Izzo achieved his team's longest winning streak since the 2018-19 season.

Looking ahead, Michigan State will return home for their next game against Minnesota at the Breslin Center on January 28th.
