Michigan State University's women's tennis team is set to host its spring home opener at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center. The Spartans will face Xavier on Friday, January 24, and West Virginia on Sunday, January 26. Admission to these matches is free for attendees.

The match against Xavier will take place on Friday at 5 p.m., while the game with West Virginia is scheduled for Sunday at 10 a.m. Additionally, Xavier and West Virginia will compete against each other on Saturday at noon.

The Spartans recently returned from challenging matches in the Pacific Northwest against Gonzaga and Washington State. Senior Liisa Vehvilainen, junior Matilde Morais, and freshman Ellie Blackford managed to earn points in singles play during these encounters.

Looking ahead, Michigan State aims to secure victories after their tough opening weekend.

In terms of series history with Xavier, this season marks multiple meetings between the teams during fall tournament play. Over the last decade, Michigan State has faced Xavier eight times in spring seasons, holding a record of 7-1. Their upcoming match serves as Michigan State's home opener.

Xavier began their season in Lubbock, Texas but was unable to compete against Abilene Christian due to weather conditions. They subsequently lost their first match against Texas Tech with a score of 0-7.

As for West Virginia, this will be only their second meeting with Michigan State in twenty seasons since they last faced off in the 2021-22 season. The Mountaineers opened their spring season with a double-header at home against Duquesne and Morgan State, narrowly defeating Duquesne 4-3 and sweeping Morgan State 7-0.

Following Sunday's contest, Michigan State's women's tennis team will remain in East Lansing for another double-header on February 2 against Western and Eastern Michigan at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center.
