Michigan State University's baseball team is set to face off against the Lansing Lugnuts, a High-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, in the upcoming 2025 Crosstown Showdown. The exhibition game will take place at Jackson Field on April 1, with a scheduled start time of 6:05 p.m.

This event marks the 17th edition of the Crosstown Showdown and will be played for the fourth consecutive year since its return in 2022 after a hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Of these games, 13 have been held during the spring season. For the Lugnuts, this match serves as preparation for their upcoming Minor League Baseball season.

The tradition began in 2007 as a way to celebrate baseball in Mid Michigan. In that inaugural game on April 3, 2007, the Lugnuts narrowly defeated Michigan State with a score of 4-3 before an audience of over six thousand spectators. Since then, Michigan State has claimed victory only once in 2009 with a decisive score of 12-2. The Lugnuts have dominated recent years, winning eleven consecutive games including last year's seven-inning contest where they won decisively with an 18-0 scoreline.

Last year's event saw an attendance of over four thousand fans who received special Spartan green-colored jerseys as part of early entry promotions.

Tickets for this year's game will be available starting December 20 at lansinglugnuts.com. Additional details regarding game day promotions and ticketing information will be provided on msuspartans.com and lansinglugnuts.com closer to the event date.
