Michigan State hockey team reaches NCAA quarterfinals under coach Ron Mason

The 1987-88 Michigan State University hockey team concluded their season as NCAA Tournament Quarterfinalists. Under the guidance of Head Coach Ron Mason, the team achieved an overall record of 27 wins, 16 losses, and 3 ties. In the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA), they secured a third-place finish with a conference record of 18-11-3.

The roster included notable players such as Danton Cole, Tom Tilley, Chris Luongo, and Bobby Reynolds. The coaching staff was led by Ron Mason with assistance from Terry Christensen and George Gwozdecky.

Throughout the season, Michigan State faced various opponents in both regular-season games and tournaments. Highlights include victories against Ohio State on October 9th with a score of 9-4 and Western Michigan on January 15th with a close win of 7-6. They also competed in several significant tournaments like the Great Lakes Invitational at Joe Louis Arena and advanced to the NCAA First Round held in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Despite their efforts, the team's journey ended in Minneapolis during the NCAA Quarterfinals after two consecutive losses to Minnesota on March 25th and March 26th.
