Three Michigan State golfers named to GCAA All-America Scholar Team

East Lansing, Mich. – A trio of Michigan State men's golfers were selected to the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) 2023-24 All-America Scholar Team.

The Spartans recognized are recent graduates Drew Hackett and Bradley Smithson, along with rising senior Ashton McCulloch.

Hackett, who was selected to the Academic All-District Team by the College Sports Communicators last month, carried a 3.704 grade-point average while completing his master's in business administration.

Smithson, who earned his degree in advertising management, carried a 3.314 grade-point average. McCulloch, an applied engineering science major, enters his senior year at Michigan State with a 3.317 grade-point average.

To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a scoring average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.20.

There were 532 Division I athletes from 180 schools recognized this year. Michigan State was one of seven schools in the Big Ten Conference to have at least three golfers honored.
