Michigan State wrestling faced a challenging match against Wisconsin in the B1G dual action on Sunday, ultimately losing 25-12 at UW Field House. Despite the defeat, there were notable performances from some of Michigan State's wrestlers.
Redshirt freshman Clayton Jones III secured his first bonus point victory of the season during the 149-pound match. He quickly took a 3-0 lead and eventually pinned Wisconsin's Aidan Medora, marking a highlight for Michigan State in an otherwise tough competition.
True freshman Cory Thomas also had a significant achievement by earning his first career dual victory at 184 pounds. After leading early in the match, Thomas maintained his advantage to secure a win over Wisconsin's Matthew Jens with a final score of 19-13.
Max Vanadia extended his dual winning streak to three matches by defeating Gannon Rosenfeld at heavyweight with an 11-4 decision. Vanadia overcame an initial takedown by Rosenfeld to finish strong and add points for Michigan State.
Despite these individual successes, Wisconsin built an early lead and maintained control throughout most of the event. Wins by Nicolar Rivera, Zan Fugitt, Brock Bobzien, Luke Mechler, Cody Goebel, Luke Condon, and Wyatt Ingham contributed to Wisconsin's overall victory.
Michigan State now holds a record of 4-7 overall (0-6 B1G) while Wisconsin improved to 5-10 (1-6 B1G). The Spartans will have two more conference opportunities next week as they travel to face Rutgers on Friday night before returning home for a matchup against Michigan on Sunday.
