Michigan State University's women's basketball team, ranked No. 20, will host Michigan on Sunday, February 9 at 2 p.m. in East Lansing. The game coincides with the celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day and will be broadcast on FS1 with commentary by Sloane Martin and Christy Winters Scott.

The Spartans are coming off a decisive 89-75 victory against Northwestern on February 2, improving their record to 18-4 overall and 8-3 in Big Ten play. Michigan, meanwhile, has won two consecutive games after defeating Nebraska 78-60 on February 6, bringing their record to 16-7 overall and 7-5 in conference games.

This upcoming match marks the second meeting this season between the two teams. In their previous encounter on January 25, Michigan State emerged victorious with an 88-58 win over Michigan in Ann Arbor.

The Wolverines' squad features four players averaging double figures in scoring, led by Olivia Olson with an average of 16.3 points per game. Head coach Kim Barnes Arico is guiding Michigan through her thirteenth season with a career record of 277 wins and 140 losses at the university.

In terms of series history, Michigan State leads against Michigan with a record of 76 wins to the Wolverines' 25. The Spartans last swept both games against Michigan during head coach Robyn Fralick's first season.

Notable performances for MSU include junior guard Theryn Hallock's recent scoring surge; she has amassed a total of 93 points over her last five games. Graduate guard/forward Julia Ayrault also continues to climb MSU's career scoring charts with significant contributions this season.

Michigan State's defense remains strong as they lead the Big Ten in steals per game while ranking highly nationally for assists and turnover margin. Additionally, several Spartans have reached or are approaching personal milestones such as joining the collegiate "1K Club" for career points scored.

Head coach Robyn Fralick has announced that Julia Ayrault and Nyla Hampton will serve as team captains for this season based on votes from fellow players.
