A last-minute goal by Garret Schifsky secured a 2-1 victory for Michigan over Michigan State at Munn Ice Arena on Friday night. This result marked the Spartans' first home loss since October, bringing their record to 21-5-3 overall and 12-4-3 in conference play.
Schifsky tipped Ethan Edwards' shot from the left point into the net with just under a minute remaining, giving Michigan the lead at 19:03.3. Michigan State will face off against Michigan again on Saturday night in Detroit for the annual Duel in the D game at Little Caesars Arena.
In statistical highlights, this defeat ended an eleven-game unbeaten streak at Munn Ice Arena for MSU, where they now hold a season record of 10-2-1. It was also the first time this season that MSU was held to just one goal in a game.
Karsen Dorwart scored his ninth goal of the season during a power play opportunity in the opening period and has maintained a point streak throughout every series he has played this season. Isaac Howard assisted Dorwart's goal during his milestone 100th career collegiate game.
Daniel Russell received a major penalty for head contact and was given a game misconduct early in the match.
During each period, both teams showed strong performances but struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities until Schifsky's decisive late-game goal sealed Michigan's win.
