Michigan State University has announced the appointment of Tim Verschuren as an assistant coach for its women's soccer team. The announcement was made by head coach Jeff Hosler, who expressed enthusiasm about Verschuren joining the coaching staff.
"Tim brings incredible experience to our coaching staff and program," said Hosler. "As a current associate head coach in the Big Ten, he is already familiar with the players, teams and the elite level of our conference. He has strong relationships in recruiting and has served in so many key roles throughout his time at Indiana. I have always admired the work he puts in and the creative ways that he views our game both on and off the field. I couldn't be more thrilled to welcome Tim to the Spartan family!"
Verschuren comes to Michigan State after four seasons at Indiana University, where he served as associate head coach during 2024. Under his guidance, six players were named All-Big Ten, including Jamie Gerstenberg, who was recognized as Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year in 2023. That year marked Indiana's best season since 2013, finishing fifth in conference standings and securing a spot in both the Big Ten tournament and NCAA Tournament.
His coaching career began at NJIT from 2013-15 before moving on to Fairleigh Dickinson University between 2019-20. At FDU, Verschuren helped lead teams to notable achievements including advancing to the Northeast Conference championship game.
A native of Rotterdam, Netherlands, Verschuren moved to the United States in 2009 and coached at club level before taking on collegiate roles. His efforts at STA Girls Development Academy led several players into national programs.
"I am incredibly honored and excited to join the Michigan State University soccer staff," said Verschuren. "I am so grateful to Jeff Hosler for this amazing opportunity and am really looking forward to working with Jeff and assistant coaches Gabe Romo and Allison Mack."
Verschuren holds a USSF "A" Youth License along with an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma. He graduated from University of The Hague with a degree in sports management followed by a master's degree from Ohio University.
