Michigan State University's wrestling team is set to continue its Big Ten (B1G) dual season with matches against Northwestern and Wisconsin this weekend. The Spartans will face Northwestern on Friday, February 7, at 8:00 p.m. ET and Wisconsin on Sunday, February 9, at 1:00 p.m. ET. Both events will be streamed live on B1G+.
The Spartans have a historical record of 28-23 against Northwestern and 19-29-2 against Wisconsin. Michigan State last competed against the Wildcats in February 2022, where they lost 24-16. In their most recent encounter with the Badgers, Michigan State secured a victory with a score of 22-15.
Last weekend, Michigan State achieved a decisive win over Clarion with a score of 30-8 during their Senior Day event. Seniors Tristan Lujan, Jay Nivison, and Marty Larkin contributed significantly to the victory by winning their respective matches.
Redshirt freshman Remy Cotton has been making notable progress in his rankings this season. He recently moved up two spots to #24 in the FloWrestling rankings after achieving a technical fall victory over Ethan Wiant from Clarion.
Northwestern's wrestling team currently holds an overall record of 2-6 and is yet to secure a win in B1G duals this season. They are coming off a loss to Indiana last weekend. The Wildcats feature four ranked wrestlers according to InterMat rankings.
Wisconsin enters the weekend with an overall record of 4-9 and also seeks its first B1G dual win this season. The Badgers recently faced defeat against Nebraska but are led by two ranked wrestlers: Nicolar Rivera at #17 for the 125-pound category and Zan Fugitt at #14 for the 133-pound category.
Looking ahead, Michigan State will face Rutgers next Friday before returning home for another match against Michigan on Sunday, February 16.
