Senior Brooke Biermann from Michigan State University's women's golf team delivered a strong performance in the first round of the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic. Biermann achieved a 3-under par 69, placing her tied for fourth. The tournament is being held at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
The event spans three days and consists of 54 holes, continuing with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Monday and concluding on Tuesday. The competition includes 18 teams, with 12 ranked among the top-50 in NCAA standings.
Michigan State posted a team score of 1-under par 287, securing third place after the first round. Vanderbilt leads with a score of 5-under par 283, followed by Ole Miss at 4-under par 284. North Florida is fourth at 1-over par 289, while Auburn, Northwestern, and LSU are tied for fifth at 2-over par 290.
Biermann began her round on the fourth hole and recorded birdies on three of her first six holes. She completed the round with four birdies overall. Senior Katie Lu finished with an even-par score of 72, tying for 21st place. Junior Taylor Kehoe and sophomore Ana Sofia Murica both scored 1-over par 73, tying for 28th place. Freshman Catalina Monroy ended the day tied for 73rd at 5-over par 77.
Junior Paula Balanzategui also performed well as an individual player, matching Biermann's score with a tie for fourth place at 3-under par 69.
In the next round, Michigan State will tee off from the first hole alongside Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, and North Florida.
