Michigan State University's wrestling team is set to honor its graduating seniors in a dual meet against Clarion on Sunday, February 2. The event will take place at Jenison Field House and will be streamed live on B1G+. This marks the penultimate home dual of the season for the Spartans, who currently hold a 3-5 record in duals and are yet to secure a win in Big Ten action.
Historically, Michigan State has maintained a strong performance against Clarion, boasting a 7-2 all-time record since their first encounter in 1994. The Spartans have won their last four matches against the Golden Eagles, including a 25-13 victory on the road last season. In their previous meeting at East Lansing on January 24, 2020, Michigan State triumphed with a score of 25-15.
The upcoming match will see several seniors being honored for their contributions to the team. Tristan Lujan, Andy Hampton, Jay Nivison, Marty Larkin, and Nick West are among those set to be recognized. Additionally, student managers Brynne Giallombardo, Taylor Newstead, and Kylee Chandler will also receive honors.
In recent NCAA coaches' rankings released last week, two Michigan State wrestlers were highlighted. Remy Cotton achieved his highest ranking of the year at #18 while Max Vanadia made his debut at #33.
Clarion enters the weekend with an overall record of 3-9 and a Mid-American Conference (MAC) record of 2-4. The Golden Eagles have recently secured back-to-back victories over Kent State and Long Island but faced defeat earlier this season against Rutgers.
The match promises to be competitive as both teams prepare for their upcoming challenges. Following this weekend's duals, Michigan State will resume Big Ten competition next week with away matches against Northwestern and Wisconsin.
