Michigan State faced a challenging match against Ohio State, resulting in a 4-2 defeat on Thursday night. The game was marked by an impressive performance from Ohio State's goaltender Logan Terness, who made 35 saves. Riley Thompson contributed significantly to the Buckeyes' victory with two goals and an assist.

Ohio State's defense also played a crucial role, blocking 25 shots to support Terness. This win brings Ohio State's record to 16-7-2 overall and 9-5-1 in the Big Ten Conference. Michigan State's Trey Augustine made 25 saves during the game.

The third period saw decisive moments as Gunnarwolfe Fontaine scored after a review confirmed no goaltender interference, giving Ohio State a lead. Thomas Weis extended this lead with his second goal of the season at 13:33.

David Gucciardi opened the scoring for Michigan State early in the game, netting his fifth goal of the season. However, Ohio State equalized later in the first period when Riley Thompson deflected a shot past Augustine for his eleventh goal of the season.

Thompson scored again early in the second period after being released from a penalty box breakaway opportunity. Despite Augustine’s initial saves, the puck eventually found its way into Michigan State’s net due to an unfortunate deflection off one of their defenders.

Karsen Dorwart managed to tie the game for Michigan State with a power-play goal midway through the second period. Matt Basgall assisted Dorwart by winning back possession and setting up his teammate for an accurate shot from the left circle.

This loss marks Michigan State’s first regulation defeat since December 6th against Wisconsin and is part of their four losses this season—all against top-ranked teams including Boston College and Michigan.

Michigan State will face Ohio State again on Friday night at Value City Arena at 7 pm as they conclude their regular-season series.
