Spartan teams prepare for crucial competitions across various sports

Michigan State Athletics is gearing up for an eventful week from January 21 to 27, with several teams competing in key matchups.

The Michigan State hockey team, ranked No. 2, will face off against the No. 4 Minnesota Golden Gophers at home on Friday and Saturday. The games are set for 7 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively, with Saturday's game being broadcast on Big Ten Network. The Spartans previously secured a shoot-out win and a 5-3 victory over the Gophers in Minneapolis last December.

In women's basketball, the No. 21 Spartans will host Penn State on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., before traveling to face their rivals, No. 24 Michigan, on Saturday at noon. This contest will also be televised live on Big Ten Network.

The wrestling team will return to conference action with two home duals this week. They will compete against Indiana on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a match against Nebraska on Sunday at 1 p.m., which will highlight the growth of women's wrestling in Michigan.

Women's tennis kicks off its home season this weekend with matches against Xavier on Friday at 5 p.m., and West Virginia on Sunday at 10 a.m.

On the road this week is the women's gymnastics team, ranked No. 4, who are set to compete against No.14 Ohio State on Friday night after achieving a season-high score of 197.500 in their recent meet against Michigan.

Men's tennis had an impressive start to their season and will travel to Fort Worth, Texas this weekend to play Liberty and either TCU or Pacific following their recent victories including one over No.7 Kentucky.

The men's basketball team has just one game scheduled this week as they take an impressive winning streak into their matchup against Rutgers at Madison Square Garden on Saturday.

Finally, Spartan track and field athletes are heading to Indianapolis for the Crossroads of America Invitational taking place Friday and Saturday after capturing multiple event titles last weekend.
