Junior Charlie Stramel has been recognized as the Big Ten Second Star of the Week following his significant contribution to Michigan State University's (MSU) recent hockey series against No. 10 Michigan. Stramel played a crucial role in MSU's 4-1 victory over the Wolverines at Munn Ice Arena.
During the game, Stramel was involved in three out of four goals scored by MSU. He netted a goal late in the first period, which turned out to be the game-winner, and added a shorthanded goal—the first of his career—in the second period. Additionally, he assisted Matt Basgall's power play goal that opened the scoring for MSU.
This performance marked Stramel's second three-point game within two series, having previously achieved a career-best three assists during a win at Penn State. Over 24 games this season, Stramel has recorded an 8-13-21 scoring line, surpassing his previous record of 8-12-20 from two seasons (67 games) at Wisconsin. He has accumulated 12 points in his last 11 games and ranks second on his team for both points and assists with a +13 rating.
Stramel is also third among Spartans in power play points with contributions to six of MSU's 14 man-advantage goals this season.
Michigan State is currently ranked No. 2 nationally and will face No. 4/3 Minnesota at Munn Ice Arena in an upcoming series that could significantly impact the Big Ten standings. The Spartans are presently one point ahead of the Gophers with five series remaining in their schedule. Game times are set for Friday at 7 pm and Saturday at 6 pm.
