Michigan State University's women's tennis team faced a challenging match against Washington State on Sunday in Spokane, Washington. The Spartans, who were coming off a 5-2 loss to Gonzaga, struggled to gain momentum in their doubles and singles matches.
In the doubles competition, junior Matilde Morais and redshirt sophomore Hanna Tsitavets faced tough opposition from the Cougars but were unable to secure a victory. Similarly, the junior duo of Issey Purser and Oriana Parkins-Godwin also fell short. As a result, senior Liisa Vehvilainen and Ellie Black did not complete their match.
The singles matches proved equally demanding for Michigan State. Junior Matilde Morais was the only Spartan to earn a point for her team, winning her match in straight sets with scores of 6-3, 6-3. Despite her efforts, the Spartans concluded the day with a 1-6 defeat. This result brought Washington State's record to 3-0 while Michigan State finished its weekend trip with an 0-2 record.
Looking ahead, Michigan State will return home to East Lansing for their season opener against Xavier on Friday, January 24th at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center.
