Michigan State's wrestling team achieved its first home dual victory of the season by defeating Buffalo 25-13 at Jenison Field House in East Lansing, Michigan. The Spartans initially trailed 13-3 but managed to secure five consecutive wins to turn the match around.
The dual began with three consecutive victories for Buffalo at 149, 157, and 165 pounds. Michigan State's Ceasar Garza then claimed an 11-10 decision at 174 pounds, reducing the deficit. Despite a major decision win for Buffalo's Marcus Petite that put them ahead at intermission, Michigan State rallied back after the break.
Redshirt freshman Remy Cotton energized the team with a pinfall victory at 197 pounds. Following him, Max Vanadia secured a tech fall win in the heavyweight category. Caleb Weiand won his bout due to a stalling penalty against his opponent from Buffalo.
Further wins came from Andy Hampton and Jaden Crumpler in their respective weight classes, both achieving major decisions. These victories contributed significantly to Michigan State's final score of 25 points against Buffalo's 13.
The Spartans now hold a record of 3-3 in duals and will host Indiana and Nebraska next weekend at Jenison Field House.
