Michigan State track teams split for indoor meets

Michigan State University's track and field team will divide into two groups for upcoming competitions this Saturday. Athletes will participate in the Simmons-Harvey Invitational in Ann Arbor and the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open in Allendale.

The Simmons-Harvey Invitational marks Michigan State's second consecutive competition at the University of Michigan. The event will include athletes from Michigan State, the University of Michigan, and Purdue University.

In the women's 800-meter race, Katelyn Stewart-Barnett is set to make her indoor track debut for 2025 alongside Adit Dau, Madison Osterberg, Reese Powers, and Sarah Forsyth. The women's distance squad will also be active with five competitors in the 3000-meter race led by Sophia Lucki and Allison Sebold. For the men's 3000 meters, Riley Hough and Tyler Pritchett are among five participants.

Following a strong performance last week in Ann Arbor, Michigan State's sprint squad returns to action. Amani Nuels will compete in the 60 meters while Kaia Scheffler participates in both the 60 meters and 60-meter hurdles. Avery Budz is set for the 60-meter hurdles as well. Five male athletes will compete in the 60-meter hurdles under Logan Allen's leadership.

Valadian Pallett returns to defend his title after winning last week's weight throw at the Wolverine Invitational. Sophia Mettes and Natalie Blake are scheduled to make their pole vault debuts for this season. In men's pole vaulting events, Dylan Terryberry, Adam Blue, Landon Cosby, and Sean Mullen will represent Michigan State.

Meanwhile, at Grand Valley State's Kelly Family Sports Center for the GVSU Bob Eubanks Open over twenty-eight Spartans across various disciplines including sprints mid-distance distance throws as well as pole vault are expected to participate.

Among those competing in Allendale are young talents such as Allison Chimielewski Sophia Bonnema Julie Bockenstette who will run mile races along with three women three men from MSU competing within an 800m category too.
