Garrett Shifsky's overtime goal led Michigan to a 3-2 victory over Michigan State in Ann Arbor on Friday night. The loss ended the Spartans' nine-game unbeaten streak, leaving them with an 18-3-2 record.

Michigan State initially took the lead when Karsen Dorwart scored two minutes into the game. Dorwart later assisted Joey Larson's goal eight minutes into the third period, breaking a 1-1 tie. However, Michigan responded with goals in both the second and third periods, including an equalizer from TJ Hughes with just over five minutes left in regulation.

In overtime, Michigan had two shot attempts, with Shifsky scoring on the second attempt. Trey Augustine made 29 saves for Michigan State, while Logan Stein stopped 35 shots for Michigan, aided by his defense blocking an additional 16 shots.

The teams are set to meet again Saturday night at Munn Ice Arena. The game will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network at 7:30 pm.

Notably, this was MSU's first overtime loss of the season after six games that went beyond regulation (3-1-2). It was also their fifth consecutive OT game in Big Ten series play. The Spartans have played ten of their last eleven games away from home; Saturday’s match will be only their second home game since December 1st.

Karsen Dorwart recorded his seventh goal of the season and has now scored in the opening game of a series for five consecutive weekends. Joey Larson netted his eighth goal of the season. Gavin O'Connell returned to action after being sidelined since December 6th and contributed an assist on Dorwart's early goal. Maxim Štrbák marked his milestone by skating in his 50th career game.
