Michigan State University's women's tennis team is set to begin its spring season with dual matches in Spokane, Washington. The Spartans will face Gonzaga and Washington State at the Stevens Center, marking their first competitive action of the year.

Fans can follow Friday's match against Gonzaga through live stats and a live stream on MSUSpartans.com. Sunday's encounter with Washington State will also be available via a live stream.

After finishing last season with a 10-16 record, Michigan State aims for improvement this year. The team features senior Liisa Vehviläinen, juniors Sarah Fazlagic, Matilde Morais, Issey Purser, and Natalie Stasny. Freshmen Ellie Blackford, Amara Brahmbhatt, and Olivia Kutlova have shown potential during the fall tournaments.

The roster has been strengthened by transfers Oriana Parkins-Godwin from Drake and Hanna Tsitavets from Georgia Southern. These additions bring experience and depth to the team.

In their upcoming match against Gonzaga, Michigan State looks to build on past success. The teams last met in dual action during the 2019-20 season when Michigan State won 4-0. This weekend marks only their second meeting in five years.

Following the match against Gonzaga, Michigan State will play Washington State on Sunday. The Cougars began their season with a dominant 7-0 victory over UC Davis on January 11. This matchup is only the second time these teams have faced each other since 2019.

The Spartans' home opener is scheduled for January 24 against Xavier at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center in East Lansing.
