Senior forward Frankie Fidler led Michigan State with 18 points in a close victory over Penn State, ending with a score of 90-85 at the Breslin Center. Fidler's performance included scoring 14 points in the second half and contributing seven rebounds, four steals, and two assists.
Alongside Fidler, senior guard Jaden Akins added 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Junior guard Tre Holloman contributed ten points and six assists. Redshirt freshman Jeremy Fears Jr. also played a key role with eight points and seven assists.
The win marks Michigan State's tenth consecutive victory, improving their record to 15-2 overall and maintaining an undefeated streak in the Big Ten Conference at 6-0. Meanwhile, Penn State's record falls to 12-6 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
During the game, Michigan State had a ten-point lead with just over five minutes remaining after Akins made a steal and layup. However, Penn State narrowed the gap to three points following two three-pointers by Zach Hicks. Fidler responded by extending Michigan State's lead back to eight points with crucial plays late in the game.
Despite Hicks hitting another three-pointer for Penn State, Akins secured the win for Michigan State by converting a three-point play with less than thirty seconds left on the clock. Holloman sealed the victory by making two free throws shortly after.
Michigan State started strong with an early lead from a Holloman three-pointer just over a minute into the game. The Spartans maintained their advantage throughout most of the match despite various efforts from Penn State to close the gap.
Looking ahead, Michigan State will face No. 19 Illinois at home on Sunday as they conclude their two-game homestand.
