Spartan women’s tennis competes at Michigan Invitational

Michigan State's women's tennis team participated in the Michigan Invitational over the weekend, marking the start of their 2025 season. The event took place in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with two Spartans, Amara Brahmbhatt and Hanna Tsitavets, competing alongside Eastern Michigan against teams from No. 8 Michigan, No. 15 Ohio State, and Texas Tech.

On Friday, Brahmbhatt secured a victory in singles against Bayley Sheinin from Michigan with scores of 6-4 and 6-2. Tsitavets faced Ava Bruno from Michigan but lost her match 6-2, 6-2. In doubles, the Spartan duo competed against Elena Daskalova and Arina Oreshchenkova from Texas Tech but did not manage to win.

Saturday's matches saw Brahmbhatt winning another singles match against Marta Komar from Eastern Michigan with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-2. Tsitavets was unable to secure a win despite her efforts. The pair then faced Julia Fliegner and Reese Miller from Michigan in doubles but lost the match 6-3.

The tournament concluded on Sunday with Brahmbhatt competing in a final singles match against Emily Sartz-Lunde from Michigan. The day ended with the Spartan duo playing Nao Nishino and Sophia Cisse from Ohio State in doubles. The closely contested match ended with Ohio State winning 7-6 (8-6).

Looking ahead, MSU women's tennis will resume dual match play on Friday, January 17th in Spokane, Washington against Gonzaga at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT and Washington State on Sunday, January 19th at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT. They will host Xavier on Friday, January 24th at the MSU Tennis Center for their spring home opener.
