MSU ties with Penn State but loses extra point in shootout

Michigan State University's hockey team played to a 2-2 tie against Penn State on Saturday, but lost in the shootout, dropping an extra point in the Big Ten standings. The Spartans maintain their unbeaten streak at nine games with a record of 7-0-2. Overall, they are now 18-2-2 and 9-1-2 in Big Ten play.

Penn State managed to level the score at 2-2 late in the third period during a power play, pulling their goalie for an additional attacker. Ben Schoen scored by tipping a shot past Trey Augustine. The teams remained scoreless through overtime, leading to a shootout where Dylan Lugris secured the win for Penn State in the fourth round.

The game saw Aiden Fink scoring early for Penn State, while Michigan State responded with two goals in the second period from Isaac Howard and Joey Larson. Howard's goal came from a two-on-one break facilitated by Patrick Geary, who also assisted on Larson's goal.

Arsenii Sergeev was notable with 35 saves for Penn State and made four more during the shootout. Augustine recorded 32 saves for Michigan State and stopped a penalty shot attempt in the third period.

Michigan State will conclude its series of road games next Friday at Michigan before hosting them on Saturday evening.
