Michigan State hosts Washington for first home game of new year

Michigan State University's men's basketball team is set to face the University of Washington in a home game on Thursday, January 9. The match will be broadcast live on BTN with commentary from Brandon Gaudin and LaPhonso Ellis. Fans can also listen to the Spartan Media Network's radio coverage featuring Will Tieman and Matt Steigenga.

The Michigan State Spartans enter the game with a 12-2 overall record and hold a 3-0 standing in the Big Ten Conference. They are ranked No. 16 in the Associated Press poll and No. 14 in the USA Today Coaches poll. The team's recent performance includes a seven-game winning streak, with their latest victory being against Ohio State.

Jaden Akins is currently the only player scoring in double figures for MSU, leading with an average of 13.7 points per game. Senior center Szymon Zapala contributed significantly to their last win by scoring 15 points against Ohio State.

On the other side, Washington's Huskies have a record of 10-5 overall and are currently struggling within their conference games at 1-3. Their most recent victory was against Maryland, although they have faced defeats from Illinois and Seattle U recently.

Leading Washington's efforts is senior forward Great Osobor, who averages 14.3 points per game along with notable contributions in rebounds and assists.

Historically, Michigan State has had an edge over Washington, having won four out of six past encounters between these teams.
