A record number of seven Michigan State University Spartans have been named to the Academic All-District Team, recognized for their achievements both on the field and in academics. The athletes honored are Nate Carter, Sam Edwards, Maverick Hansen, Marcellius Pulliam, Jalen Satchell, Darius Snow, and Jalen Thompson.
This accolade marks a second recognition for Edwards, Hansen, and Snow. The selection process is managed by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), requiring nominees to be starters or significant contributors in at least their second year of college with a minimum 3.5 GPA.
The CSC Academic All-America program honors football players across four divisions: NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA. Carter, Edwards, and Hansen will advance to the next stage of consideration for the Academic All-America Team.
Nate Carter graduated with a major in human development and family studies in December 2024. During his two-year career with the Spartans from 2023-24, he rushed for 1,297 yards and nine touchdowns. He was also part of the Academic All-Big Ten Team last fall.
Sam Edwards completed his double major in political theory/constitutional democracy and international relations in May 2024. He will begin a master's program in marketing research this spring semester. His contributions included playing as long snapper on special teams.
Maverick Hansen played 54 games over five years with MSU. Graduating with a degree in hospitality business, he has been recognized multiple times academically within the Big Ten Conference.
Marcellius Pulliam transferred from Miami to MSU over the summer and participated in all games this season primarily on special teams.
Jalen Satchell joined MSU from Old Dominion during summer as well and played on the defensive line throughout most of this season's games.
Darius Snow returned after recovering from injuries sustained during previous seasons; he has achieved academic recognition before being acknowledged again this year while completing degrees related to graphic design/strategic communication fields respectively alongside sporting commitments too
Jalen Thompson started every game defensively while earning first-time Academic All-Big Ten honors during fall term itself
