Michigan State University's hockey team is set to face Penn State in a weekend series at the Pegula Ice Arena. The games are scheduled for Friday, January 10 at 7 pm and Saturday, January 11 at 6 pm. Michigan State, ranked No. 1 nationally with a record of 17-2-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the Big Ten Conference, will be on the road again after recently securing two victories against Wisconsin.
The Spartans have shown strong defensive performance this season, allowing only 37 goals in 20 games. This ranks them eighth nationally for fewest goals allowed and first among Big Ten schools. Their scoring margin stands at +1.55, placing them second in the conference and seventh in Division I.
A notable line for Michigan State includes Charlie Stramel, Isaac Howard, and Daniel Russell, who together scored 11 points in their last series against Wisconsin. Howard is currently third in the Big Ten for points and second for goals this season.
Sophomore goaltender Luca Di Pasquo has been performing well, especially during his recent four post-holiday games while Trey Augustine was away at the World Juniors. Di Pasquo's efforts include career-best saves during their game against Wisconsin.
Trey Augustine recently returned from winning his second gold medal at the IIHF World Junior Championships with Team USA. He played five out of seven games during the tournament and achieved a .917 save percentage.
The upcoming matches between Michigan State and Penn State will not be televised but can be followed via radio on WJIM 1240 AM or online through BTN+ webstreams.
