Daniel Russell's decisive goal in the final moments of overtime secured a 4-3 victory for Michigan State University (MSU) against Wisconsin during the Frozen Confines event at Wrigley Field on Saturday. This marked Russell's second goal of the game, following a pass from defenseman Nicklas Andrews, and extending MSU's unbeaten streak to seven games.

Wisconsin forced overtime with a late third-period goal by freshman Ryland Mosely, assisted by Quinn Finley. Despite their efforts, Wisconsin faced their third consecutive defeat against MSU, bringing their record to 9-12-1 overall and 5-9-0 in Big Ten play.

MSU holds a No. 1 national ranking with an improved record of 17-2-1 and shares first place in the Big Ten standings with Minnesota. Daniel Russell contributed significantly to the win with two goals and an assist, while Isaac Howard added a goal and two assists. Sophomore goaltender Luca Di Pasquo made a career-high 31 saves.

The game featured notable performances from both teams. For Wisconsin, Mosely and Finley each recorded a goal and an assist, while goalie Tommy Scarfone made 34 saves. The Spartans initially led with goals from Vladislav Lukashevich and Russell before Wisconsin equalized through Gavin Morrisey and Finley.

Isaac Howard scored again for MSU in the third period before Mosley's last-minute goal sent the game into overtime. In extra time, Tiernan Shoudy won a critical faceoff that set up Russell's game-winning shot.

Michigan State will next compete in a road series at Penn State on January 11-12.

Statistics highlight that this was MSU's longest game duration this season at three hours and thirty-four minutes. It also marked the program's 1,400th victory since its inception in 1922. The event drew an audience of 24,788 spectators.

Luca Di Pasquo earned his sixth win of the year during this match-up while stepping in for starter Trey Augustine over recent games.
