Michigan State University's top-ranked hockey team is set to face off against Wisconsin in a two-game series to open the 2025 season. The games will take place on Thursday, January 2, at Mason Rink in Munn Ice Arena and Saturday, January 4, at Wrigley Field.

The Spartans have had a strong start this season with a record of 15-2-1. "No. 1/1 Michigan State has a quick turnaround after the Great Lakes Invitational as it hosts Wisconsin at Munn on Thursday then tangles with the Badgers in the Frozen Confines game at Wrigley Field on Saturday," according to team notes. This series marks their second encounter this season after splitting games in December.

Defensively, Michigan State has allowed only 31 goals across 18 games, ranking them first in the Big Ten and second nationally for goals against per game. Offensively, they average 3.35 goals per game.

Sophomore Luca Di Pasquo recently earned MVP honors at the Great Lakes Invitational and was named Big Ten First Star of the Week. "In four starts this season, Di Pasquo has allowed just two goals (0.50 GAA) and boasts a .975 save percentage," highlighting his impressive performance.

Key players like Charlie Stramel, Isaac Howard, and Daniel Russell have contributed significantly to the team's offense recently. "Howard had a goal in each game of the GLI," leading his team with 11 goals and tied for assists.

Additionally, Karsen Dorwart's line with Joey Larson and Red Savage also performed well during recent tournaments. Larson was named to the All-Tournament Team at GLI.

MSU's defensive players contribute offensively as well, with Matt Basgall leading defensemen in scoring while Nicklas Andrews leads with a +15 rating.

Fans can watch Thursday’s game via Spartan Ticket Office or Seat Geek tickets or catch it live on Big Ten Network featuring commentators Ben Holden and Fred Pletsch on Friday or Dan Kelly and Ben Clymer on Saturday.

Radio coverage will be available through WJIM 1240 AM along with an online stream via Spartan Media Network hosted by Scott Moore and Rob Woodward.
