Michigan State University's athletic teams have a busy schedule in the coming days, featuring competitions across several sports.

The university's hockey team, ranked No. 1, will compete in the 58th annual Great Lakes Invitational on Sunday and Monday in Grand Rapids. The Spartans are set to face Northern Michigan in their opening match on Sunday night. Michigan Tech and No. 6 Western Michigan will compete in the other semifinal game. This marks the 48th time that Michigan State has participated in this tournament, where they have previously won 12 titles.

In women's basketball, the No. 19 ranked Spartans will resume play after the holiday break with a game against No. 8 Maryland on Sunday. This matchup serves as Michigan State's Big Ten road opener for the season. The team holds an impressive record of 11-1 overall and is undefeated in Big Ten play at 1-0. Maryland remains one of only eight unbeaten teams nationwide. Following this contest, Michigan State will host Purdue at home on New Year's Day at the Breslin Center.

The men's basketball team, ranked No. 18, is scheduled to host Western Michigan on Monday at 3 p.m., marking their final non-conference game of the season. Western Michigan's team is led by Dwayne Stephens, a former student-athlete and long-time assistant coach for MSU who contributed to multiple championships during his tenure with the Spartans.

In wrestling, Michigan State is among 37 men's programs competing at the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships taking place on Sunday and Monday in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The event includes nine Big Ten squads and features some of the top wrestlers from across the nation, with eighteen Spartans participating.
