Former Michigan State volleyball player Kristen Kelsay has been appointed as the new head coach for the university's volleyball program. Kelsay, who ranks among MSU's career assist leaders, was previously the associate head coach at Minnesota for two seasons.

He highlighted her experience and dedication to both the university and its community.
Kelsay had a successful stint at Minnesota, where she contributed to the team's NCAA Tournament appearances and significant victories over top-ranked teams like Texas and Wisconsin. Under her guidance, setter Melani Shaffmaster received several accolades including First Team All-Big Ten honors.
Expressing her gratitude for the opportunity, Kelsay stated: "I am honored to return to Michigan State University as our women's volleyball head coach." She conveyed her eagerness to reconnect with the team and community.
Kelsay's coaching history includes roles at Northwestern and Michigan State under former head coach Cathy George. She also worked with Volleyball Club Nebraska and participated in USA National Team Development Program activities.
During her time as an assistant at MSU, Kelsay helped achieve an Elite Eight appearance in 2017. As a player from 2010-13, she led the Spartans to consecutive Sweet 16 appearances and received multiple awards for leadership and academic excellence.
Originally from Wheaton, Illinois, Kelsay holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Michigan State and a master's degree in sports administration from Northwestern.
