Michigan State University will host a gymnastics meet at the Breslin Center for the first time on January 17, welcoming their in-state rival, Michigan. The event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
MSU gymnastics head coach Mike Rowe shared his excitement about the announcement made by MSU Athletic Director Alan Haller. "When (MSU Athletic Director) Alan Haller came over to Jenison to surprise the team with his announcement of moving the Michigan meet to Breslin, the team came unglued," Rowe said. He described the team's reaction as one of enthusiasm and recognition of their accomplishments. "This is huge for them and so well-deserved."
Tickets for the event are now available, with all seats being general admission. Adult tickets are priced at $10, while youth (18 and under) and senior (55+) tickets are $5.
The Spartans have shown strong performance in recent seasons, capturing their second consecutive Big Ten regular season title last year with a perfect 9-0 record in conference play. They also won their first Big Ten Championship crown in front of 5,700 fans at Jenison Field House and advanced to their third straight NCAA Regional Final. Currently ranked No. 11 in the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association preseason poll, they were picked to finish first by conference coaches in the Big Ten preseason poll.
Senior captain Gabrielle Stephen expressed her anticipation for competing at Breslin Center: "Getting the opportunity to compete in Breslin is proof of all the hard work we've put in," she said. Stephen believes that performing in this new setting will enhance both athletes' and fans' experiences.
The upcoming Michigan State gymnastics season is sponsored by Michigan Student Aid and the Michigan Achievement Scholarship.
