The fall 2024 semester has marked a significant milestone for Michigan State University's student-athletes, as they achieved the highest academic performance in the department's history. For the first time, every team finished with both semester and cumulative GPAs above 3.0, setting new records for both metrics.

Alan Haller, Michigan State Vice President and Director of Athletics, expressed his admiration for the students' achievements: "I continue to be amazed by the academic performance of our student-athletes. They continually elevate their performance in the classroom, breaking marks once believed to be unreachable."

The department recorded an all-time high cumulative GPA of 3.4324, marking the 28th consecutive semester over a 3.0 GPA. This surpassed the previous record of 3.3744 set last spring. Nine teams, including men's and women's basketball, football, hockey, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's track & field, and wrestling achieved their highest cumulative GPAs in program history. Additionally, field hockey and rowing teams posted their highest post-fall cumulative GPAs.

The new record high semester GPA was also established at 3.4616, surpassing the previous mark of 3.3752 from fall 2020. This achievement represents the 24th consecutive semester with a GPA over 3.0. Eight teams reached their best-ever semester performances.

Individually, a record number of students excelled academically; 555 students (84% of the student-athlete population) maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher during fall 2024. Among them were 121 students who earned a perfect 4.0 GPA out of the total 541 students who achieved a GPA of at least 3.0 for the term.
