Michigan State Athletics has announced a leadership change in its Student-Athlete Wellness department. Shayna Bruno has been promoted to the role of Director of Student-Athlete Wellness. Previously serving as Associate Director, Bruno brings extensive experience in clinical mental health counseling and is dedicated to supporting student-athletes.

Ashton Henderson, Deputy Athletic Director/Championship Resources, expressed confidence in Bruno's capabilities: "Our student-athletes and department are in great hands with Shayna Bruno at the helm."

Bruno stated, "I am truly honored to accept the role of Director of Student Athlete Wellness at Michigan State University," acknowledging support from key figures including Alan Haller and Dr. Molly McQueary. She emphasized her commitment to fostering an environment where athletes can thrive both on and off the field.

Dr. Jeffrey Kovan, Director of Sports Medicine and Performance, praised Bruno's leadership: "It has been a joy to see Shayna continue to flourish as a leader and practitioner at Michigan State."

The athletics department also recognized Dr. Molly McQueary for her contributions over the past two and a half years. As she transitions out of her current role, she will remain available for three months to ensure continuity.

Michigan State continues its longstanding commitment to sports psychiatry under Vice President and Director of Athletics Alan Haller. The university plans to hire an additional mental health clinician by March 2025.
