Michigan State University athletes Rachel Forsyth and Riley Hough have been recognized as Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Athletes to Watch. The announcement was made by the conference on Tuesday.
Rachel Forsyth, from Ann Arbor, Michigan, has recently completed an impressive cross country season. She was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and earned Great Lakes Region Women's Runner of the Year honors. At the NCAA Cross Country Championships, she secured a 21st place finish, earning first-team All-American honors.
Forsyth's debut indoor meet at MSU saw her break a school record in the 3000m with a time of 8:59.4, surpassing Rachel Schulist's 2015 record of 9:01.25. She placed eighth among collegiate performers.
Riley Hough, hailing from Hartland, Michigan, also had a notable cross country season. He represented Michigan State in the men's 10k race at the NCAA Championship, finishing in 80th place with a time of 29:47.2.
In track & field last season, Hough finished sixth in the 5000m with a time of 14:09.04 and took second place in the mile at the Badger's Windy City Invite with a time of 4:03.36.
The Spartans are scheduled to compete next at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor on Saturday, January 11.
