Michigan State triumphs over Minnesota in Big Ten opener

Michigan State's men's basketball team secured a 90-72 victory over Minnesota in their Big Ten opener at Williams Arena. Junior forward Jaxon Kohler recorded his third double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds, contributing to Michigan State's success. Sophomore forward Coen Carr led the team with 12 points, while sophomore forward Xavier Booker added 11 points, and redshirt freshman guard Jeremy Fears Jr. finished with 10 points and five assists.

The Spartans improved their record to 6-2 overall and started their conference play with a win, while Minnesota fell to 6-4 overall and is now 0-1 in league play. Michigan State led by 12 points at halftime, extending their lead to as much as 20 points during the second half.

Key statistics from the game include Michigan State shooting 52.7 percent from the floor and hitting a season-high of 50 percent of their three-pointers. The Spartans also dominated in assists, recording an assist rate of 86.2 percent on field goals.

Head Coach Tom Izzo's career record improved to 714-297, including a significant mark in Big Ten play. This was Michigan State's first conference opener win since the 2021-22 season.

The Spartans will host Nebraska for their Big Ten Conference home opener on December 7th at noon.
