Michigan State University's men's tennis team has made a significant impact in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Men's and Women's National Singles and Doubles Computerized Rankings, released on December 3, 2024. The team boasts four singles players and four doubles pairs within the rankings.
Junior Ozan Baris stands out with a No. 8 ranking after finishing as the National Runner-Up at the NCAA Individual Championships on November 24. Sophomore Aristotelis Thanos follows at No. 27, having reached the Round of 32 in the same championships.
Freshman Matthew Forbes is ranked No. 40, while senior Max Sheldon holds the No. 83 spot.
In doubles rankings, freshman Danial Rakhmatullayev and sophomore Taym Alazmeh are positioned at No. 66. The pair of Thanos and Baris is ranked No. 94, followed by Forbes and Baris at No. 99, with Sheldon and Forbes rounding out the list at No. 107.
Baris concluded his fall season with a strong singles record of 13-4, which included an impressive streak of eleven consecutive wins. In doubles play, he recorded a combined result of four wins against three losses when paired with either Forbes or Thanos. Thanos ended his singles run in fall with an eight-win to five-loss ratio.
Forbes completed his fall matches with an eight-win to seven-loss tally in singles competition while Sheldon matched him with an identical singles record of eight wins against five losses. Their collaboration in doubles resulted in a five-win to three-loss outcome.
The pairing of Rakhmatullayev and Alazmeh finished their fall campaign with nine victories against three defeats.
These national rankings highlight the top 125 individuals for both singles and doubles categories. They will remain unchanged until February 5 when new updates are expected alongside January's first Division I Team Ranking release on January 6.
Michigan State's men's tennis team is set to commence its spring season on January 17 at home against Kentucky at the MSU Tennis Center.
