Michigan State leads series after facing Rutgers; honors seniors before match

Michigan State's football team faced Rutgers on Saturday, marking their 16th encounter. Michigan State continues to lead the series with a 10-6 overall record and an 8-3 advantage in Big Ten play. The game also noted Michigan State's current standing against Rutgers in East Lansing at 5-4.

Before the game, Michigan State honored 18 seniors, including players like Brandon Baldwin, Khris Bogle, and Nate Carter. Among these seniors, Montorie Foster Jr., Cal Haladay, Maverick Hansen, and Angelo Grose have played over 50 games for the team.

Graduate linebacker Cal Haladay started his 35th consecutive game on Saturday. He has participated in a total of 47 out of his 53 career games. Haladay concluded his Spartan career with a total of 365 tackles, ranking him tied for eighth on MSU's all-time list.

The Spartans scored on their first offensive possession for the seventh time this season but suffered their first loss under such circumstances. Sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles completed 13 out of 23 passes for 150 yards and one touchdown pass. He ended his first season with Michigan State totaling 13 touchdown passes and accumulating 2,415 passing yards.

Redshirt junior Nathan Carter contributed with a rushing touchdown in the first quarter while Kay'ron Lynch-Adams added nine carries for 69 yards. Junior tight end Jack Velling achieved his first touchdown catch of the season during the fourth quarter.

On defense, Michigan State recorded five tackles for loss. Angelo Grose led the defense with ten tackles while Jordan Turner registered six stops. Ben Roberts marked his first career sack and tackle for loss.

Special teams highlighted Jonathan Kim's performance as he successfully completed two PATs.
