Michigan State University's baseball player, Ryan McKay, has been recognized by the Northwoods League with the 2024 Rawlings 'Finest in the Field' Award. The announcement was made by the NWL this week.

During his tenure with the Royal Oak Leprechauns last summer, McKay achieved a .989 fielding percentage while playing second base over 43 games and a total of 374 innings. His performance included handling 210 total chances, making 85 putouts, recording 122 assists, committing only three errors, and participating in 23 double plays.

McKay is set to begin his sophomore year with the Spartans in the upcoming 2025 season. Notably, he was the sole representative from the Royal Oak Leprechauns to be named among the nine players awarded.

The Rawlings award has been recognizing top defenders in Northwoods League Baseball since 2002. This year marks the first time awards have been given specifically to top defenders.

Looking ahead, McKay and his team are scheduled to commence their 2025 season in mid-February.
