Michigan State and Purdue faced off in a game that showcased a tale of two halves, according to Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith. "Obviously pleased to find a way to win a game," Smith said, reflecting on the contrasting performances between the first and second halves. Michigan State scored on all four possessions in the first half but struggled offensively after halftime.

Smith acknowledged Purdue's adjustments and praised his defense for tightening up in the fourth quarter. "Credit some to our defense too," he noted. Junior tight end Jack Velling was injured during the game, and while Smith reported Velling was in good spirits at the hospital, no definitive update was available.

The team had issues executing offensively in the second half, with Smith pointing out missed opportunities and execution errors. Fifth-year senior wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr.'s leadership was highlighted by Smith as crucial for the team. On D'Quan Douse's status, Smith mentioned optimism for next week despite his inability to play this time.

Smith also discussed getting more players involved and praised Nate Carter and Kay'Ron Lynch-Adam's contributions in the passing game. Reflecting on key plays at the game's end, Smith expressed confidence in his team's ability to secure victory through decisive actions rather than relying solely on field goals.

Purdue head coach Ryan Walters commended his team's resilience despite being down at halftime. "The guys in the locker room just didn't seem like they flinched," Walters said. He acknowledged defensive improvements but noted offensive struggles on the ground.

Walters addressed feeling pressure inherent to coaching but emphasized focusing on upcoming challenges against Indiana. A blocked field goal was attributed to timing issues rather than execution errors.

Purdue linebacker Kydran Jenkins commented on improved focus and execution leading to better performance in the second half, while quarterback Hudson Card credited effective passing strategies for their aerial success.

Michigan State sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles reflected on what worked initially but faltered later, emphasizing improvement going forward: "It is what it is; we still won the game." Senior wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr. stated there wasn't much pressure felt during critical moments as long as everyone executed their roles properly.

Senior linebacker Jordan Turner observed differences between halves defensively, stressing consistency throughout games: "You got to finish better in the second half."

Overall, both teams are looking ahead with plans for improvement as they prepare for future matchups.
