Michigan State University played its seventh night game of the season, setting a school record. The team has now won three out of four night games held at Spartan Stadium this year, with victories over Florida Atlantic, Iowa, and Purdue, and a loss to Ohio State. This game marked the 32nd night game in Spartan Stadium's history and only the second to take place in November.
The Spartans have been successful under Friday night lights at home since 2011, boasting a perfect 10-0 record during that period. Overall, they are 12-1 in Friday night games since then. Michigan State wore a new uniform combination for the first time: black pants, green jerseys, and black helmets featuring a green Spartan head logo.
In their series against Purdue, Michigan State now leads with an all-time record of 37-29-3 after winning nine of the last ten meetings. This was their first meeting at Spartan Stadium since 2018.
Offensively, Michigan State scored on its opening possession for the sixth time this season. Sophomore quarterback Aidan Chiles completed 15 of 31 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns. Redshirt junior running back Nathan Carter scored both a rushing and receiving touchdown for the first time in his career. Graduate running back Kay'ron Lynch-Adams had 18 carries for 85 yards.
Senior wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr. caught his third touchdown pass of the season. He led the team with four receptions for 59 yards.
Defensively, Michigan State did not allow Purdue any rushing first downs, marking only the third time in Purdue's history this has occurred. The Spartans held Purdue to -4 rushing yards and recorded three sacks during the game.
On special teams, graduate defensive lineman Ru'Quan Buckley blocked a field goal attempt in the third quarter. Graduate placekicker Jonathan Kim made a 43-yard field goal and is now leading in field goals within the Big Ten Conference.
Redshirt sophomore punter Ryan Eckley averaged 49.2 yards per punt over five punts, including two punts over 50 yards.
